5 Day Seminar / Workshop

"There is no right to escape detection. There is no right to commit the perfect crime or to an equal opportunity to that end. The constitution is not at all offended when a guilty man stubs his toe. On the contrary – it is decent to hope that he will."

Chief Justice Weintraub
State v. McKnight 52 N.J. 35,
52-53, 24 A 240 (1968)

Seminar Summary

Investigating a death is one of the most significant types of investigations that an officer can become involved with. Society, in general, and family members in particular, expect that a thorough and professional investigation will be conducted into any death. In the case of murder, successful identification, apprehension and prosecution of the offender, demands the assignment of skilled personnel.

This seminar is designed to develop the skills of novice as well as experienced investigators. It provides students with the information needed to ensure that all investigative procedures have been utilized. During practical exercises, students will discuss, evaluate and work on actual case investigations and will be provided with investigative checklists, sample forms, reports, worksheets and other resource material.

Students benefit directly from this program by not only learning how to conduct intelligent death investigations - they also develop investigative and organizational skills that will assist them in any criminal investigation.

This program is taught by instructors Charles Wernick and Brian King. Both of these gentlemen have extensive experience in conducting a variety of death investigations including complex homicides. You can learn more about them on our Biographies page.
